[šŸšŸ‡ŗ] Banishing "bro-marketing"

Your survey response was loud & clear:

High on the list …

You're tired of ā€œBroā€ marketing.

šŸ‘‰ Sports analogies
šŸ‘‰ Money as the only measure of success
šŸ‘‰ Lack of transparency
šŸ‘‰ Over-hyped results

& we’re all tired of each ā€œthingā€ being the (insert absolute adjective here)?

Seriously, they can’t ALL be the best, fastest-growing, easiest, trendiest, hottest, biggest, money-making whatever…

ā€œThere can be only oneā€

As much as we hate it, it seems like it’s everywhere & there’s no escaping it …
At least it feels that way when it comes to ā€œbrosā€ doing the bro-marketing.
& you know what really pisses me off?

It’s not just the dudes doing it!

There are aggressive, exaggerated extremes, & manipulative stuff I’ve seen coming from women & women-led businesses, too.

It even unconsciously oozes out of my fingertips when I write.
(I’m embarrassed to admit the # of edits needed to scrub it out … did I miss 1 - or 10? 🤦)

I can’t even blame binge-watching Season 6 of The Handmaid’s Tale.

ā€œBut wait, there’s more!ā€

It’s not just on the selling side of things.
It’s the same for the ā€œmansplainingā€!
I see too many women repeating the mansplaining of what they hear from male family & friends.
It’s not just the older generation!
So, this ā€œbroā€ thing isn’t a gender problem.

It’s a ā€œcan we all stop being hypey & scammy?ā€ thing.

It’s exhausting.

But we can do something about it.

ā

ā€œBe the change you want to see in the worldā€

Mahatma Gandhi

Luckily, I know someone who’s actually doing something about it.
She not only broke free of the bro-marketing, I think she’s leading a movement against it.

Her name’s Lorrie Morgan (not the singer. This Lorrie is more interestingšŸ˜‰)

ā€œShe made it. She got out!ā€

I discovered her outgoing personality & brilliant writing years ago while working for a collective that supported female entrepreneurs.

& about a year ago, Lorrie started launching anti-bro-speak training.

OK, technically, it’s how to write (& sell) to women.
But to me, it’s the same thing.

I recommend Lorrie’s programs EVERY time someone has issues with ā€œbro-marketingā€ & mansplaining … starting with this.

Learn how to Turn Women Into Buyers … without alienating the guys ā€œbrosā€ … for free.

Lesson 1 kicks off with … ā€œThe Bro Marketing Conundrumā€

I took the course when Lorrie first launched it a little over a year ago. I loved it so much, I have it bookmarked & reference it to help stop my ā€œoozingā€

Yes, it’s free, but here’s the fine print.

Fine Print #1
Turn Women Into Buyers is a lead magnet
(you’re included on Lorrie’s email list, which you can unsubscribe from anytime.)
Fair?

Fine Print #2
Regular lead magnets clog up your inbox & never get opened. This is ā€œuse it or lose itā€.
That’s not a gimmick. There’s a reason behind it.
If you don’t take it, it can’t help you.

This drips out in small, bite-sized bits … over 3 days
It’s only about 1 hour-ish … over 3 days!

Finish it, keep it.
Don’t finish? It self-destructs. šŸ˜‰
You also get reminders encouraging you to keep going if ā€œlife happensā€ & get distracted.

Make sense?

Fine Print #3
I asked Lorrie for an affiliate link. That usually means a % of the sale … but since it’s $0 you can do the math on how much I’m earning šŸ˜‰

Tracking what you find helpful gets you more helpful stuff. It may be from Lorrie, or other courses, books, podcasts, etc. (they won’t all be free, but I’ll always look for those first)

That’s my long-winded, babbling brook kinda way to say:
The anti-bro-marketing movement shows you how to write to women.

TL; DR ?

You don’t need:

🚫 to write like a hype machine to sell
🚫 sports analogies … to hit a home run with marketing šŸ˜‰
🚫  fake countdown timers & sales

Forget about the fake FOMO (Fear of Missing Out)

And you definitely don’t need to pretend you’re someone you’re not.

What you do need is messaging that:
āœ… Connects like a conversation
āœ… Speaks to what your people care about
āœ… Builds trust without manipulation
āœ… & feels good to write (because it’s true)

It’s short, it’s clear, & it teaches you how to:
 šŸ›‘ Stop using manipulative tactics
āœļø Write in a way that feels good — to everyone
🤯 Understand how to get to yes (without tricking them)

āŒ No fake urgency.
āŒ No ā€œtrending trickā€ nonsense.

Just real talk & practical help that connects & converts.

Can you find other programs, blogs, podcasts, etc on beating bro-marketing?
Of course you can.

But I’ve seen no one else break things down in a way that makes sense, is useful, & doesn’t seem like AI spit it out without a human fact-checking & proofreading it.

You deserve a successful business that makes you feel good.
& your audience deserves better than mansplaining bro-marketing.

Let’s trample the bro-marketing trend together.

BTW, your survey responses (& writing this email) reminded me I need to do a better job of calling out & cutting back on bro-marketing that sneaks into my world.

Thanks for that!

Make it a great week!
